The client of Zen Architects requires a house that is sensitive to its environment and at the same time also capable of resolving privacy and security issues. Sits near the busy street with a car park opposite, Courtyard House is located in Elsternwick, Australia. The design of this house is made to place the protected courtyard at the center of the house.
Garden
This house is set back by the architect in the front yard and behind the liquidambar tree. This way can create an open, north-facing garden, providing a buffer to the nearby street. Besides making the house looks more natural, this garden also provides another perfect area for the client to enjoy the exterior outside the house.
Courtyard
A protected courtyard is placed at the center of the house. With the design and this kind of approach, each part of the house can be accessed easily, allowing the courtyard to act as a natural corridor and a focal point.
The courtyard also takes advantage of the ventilation and natural light to connect all sections of the house, providing a lot of sunlight and warmth in the rear living areas and a central courtyard.
