With 82,400 SF in size, this museum building is renovated by Gluckman Tang that includes the addition. Georgia Museum of Art is an existing 1996 museum building located in Athens, Georgia. The $15 million addition and renovation in this project result in a new facility for all visitors.
Design
The design for this museum building consists of three main points of intervention. The intervention includes a glazed connector linking the new wing and the existing building, an addition of a new gallery wing to the south, and an expansion of the existing building to the north. The expansion is greatly increased office space, back-of-house, and art storage.
Renovation
The internal renovation is also included in this project, especially the renovation of most spaces, HVAC systems, and museum galleries. For this awesome project, Stanley Beaman & Sears serve as architect-of-record. The final result is an inviting and welcoming museum with spacious spaces.
