This modern house is located in Houghton, Johannesburg, and designed by Hugo Hamity Architects for a young couple. The layout of House Kotze is different and the site of this house is divided into two levels and the whole area of the house opens up to the beautiful open terrace and the lap pool.
The site of this house was divided into two levels. The bottom level is an original tennis court that subdivided to create a new site. Because of the difference in these levels, the entrance to this house is through the first floor and overlooking the double living areas below.
A sculptural descent into the main living area can be made thanks to the free-standing concrete staircase. There are also two majestic white double volume fireplaces that flank the living area of the house, separating the functions of dining and seating. Outside, there is an open terrace and also a lap pool that can be seen from inside the rooms.
The house bedrooms can be found on the first floor beyond the access staircase, marking the point where the public area becomes private. The white color and flat roof of this house present a blank canvas that intends no to dictate overwhelm. At the same time, some spaces also can be created with functions that can be changed throughout the future inhabitants of the space.
