Completed in 2005 by Prentiss Balance Wickline Architects, Modern Mountain Cabin North Bend is a primary house located in WA. The client wants to have a primary house with traditional elements of a home in the mountains. With the warmth of the traditional, this house comes with a more creative space and an awesome design that connects the house with the surrounding environment.
Design
The client wanted a traditional “lodge/cabin” look at first. After critical discussions, she realized that she was looking for something with traditional warmth and more creative space. A small design is enough for easy upkeep in this house but also large enough to accommodate family members, especially on holidays.
Structure
A design that tied the manmade structure with its surrounding environment perfectly is also another major factor in this project. This house has a fluidity that achieved with oversized sliding doors, huge floor-to-ceiling windows in the main house to capture stunning views of mountains, and also a full-height stone fireplace.
