Located in Eltham, Bush Studio is designed as an inspiring workspace for an artist by Zen Architects. This project is located in a quiet bush landscape with a building that is oriented to maximize light availability. The studio is designed with a lightweight timber structure that hovers above the ground of the site.
Materials
The lightweight timber structure of the studio is perched in the canopy of native trees. In addition to the existing brick house, the building is also clad with sustainably harvested, radially sawn local hardwood. This material can complement the surrounding environment of the site.
Design
The entire building in this project is oriented to maximize the availability of light. This way also allows passive heating through solar gain while natural cross-ventilation and deep awnings prevent overheating when summer comes. The existing local ecology is enhanced actively by the revegetation and it is unharmed by the new construction of the project.
