Sonos had previously released a battery-powered product called Sonos Move for portable use, but now the company is releasing another product with almost the same properties called Sonos Roam.
Design
The great thing about Roam is its ease of use. As you can see from the images, the simple design and compact body are eye-catching. The portable smart speaker measures 168 x 62 x 60 mm and weighs only 0.43 kg.
The body, which is lighter than one PET bottle, is easy to carry outdoors and indoors. In addition, since it can be linked with both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, you can enjoy music anytime, anywhere.
IP67 dustproof and waterproof design on Sonos Roam can withstand a maximum of 30 minutes in a water depth of 1 m. In addition, the silicon end cap protects the speaker from vibration.
The battery lasts 10 hours in a row and supports USB-C and Qi charging. You can use a commercially available wireless charger, but a dedicated Qi charger is also sold separately.
High Quality
Of course, it is lightweight and easy to carry, but since it is a manufacturer that has made high-quality speakers, the sound quality is also unmistakable.
Sonos Roam is equipped with a Trueplay function that recognizes the space and automatically tunes the sound. Whether you bring it to the beach or use it in your study, it will correct it to the best sound on the spot.
It can also connect with multiple units with the newly added Sound Swap feature. You can switch to a nearby Sonos system speaker and play by simply pressing and holding the “Play / Pause button”.
Of course, the cooperation with various streaming services is also strong. The portable smart speaker supports more than 80 services using Sonos 2 app, Amazon Alexa, Apple AirPlay 2, etc.
Price and Availability
The portable speaker is already available in the US since early August 2021. But for other regions like Asia and Europe, the company is still receiving pre-orders since August 20th. The pre-sale period begins on August 30th with a potential release date of September 30th. As for the price, Sonos Roam is marketed for $169.
