Amazon has officially introduced the latest generation of its most popular e-reader, the All-new Kindle Paperwhite. The newest model comes three years after the previous version, and with it comes several updates that will further enhance the reading experience.

The most important and immediately visible update is the display. The size is now bigger, 6.8 inches compared to 6 inches, but the sharpness of the screen remains at 300 ppi (pixels per inch).

The display is also claimed to be able to glow 10% brighter, and the color temperature can be adjusted manually to make it more comfortable to use at night. As before, the front side of the Kindle Paperwhite is entirely flat from top to bottom, and the body is IPX8-certified as a whole waterproof.

The next update is the battery. In a single charge, the new edition Kindle Paperwhite can last up to 10 weeks of use. The plug is now USB-C, so the charging process will automatically be faster — 2.5 hours from empty to full.

Amazon did not forget to embed a new chipset in the 2021 Kindle Paperwhite edition. Combined with a new, improved interface, the new chipset is able to boost device performance by up to 20 percent. The initial setup is also more straightforward because users can log in via the Kindle app on iOS or Android devices.

Price and Availability

This 11th generation Kindle Paperwhite retails for $140. On the same occasion, Amazon also offers another variant called the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition.

This variant is more expensive – marketed at $190 – but packs more storage capacity, 32 GB compared to 8 GB in the standard variant. Not only that but the Signature Edition variant is also equipped with Qi wireless charging support, and the screen color temperature change feature can function automatically here.

Lastly, Amazon also unveiled the Kindle Paperwhite Kids. Priced at $160, this model is identical to the standard variant, except that it comes with a kid-friendly cover, a 1-year subscription to Amazon Kids+ service, and a more extended warranty period.
