This Japanese house is built on a site facing the Philosophy Road in Kyoto City, near Ginkakuji Temple. House in Ginkakuji-mae is a residential project by Kazuya Morita Architecture Studio with a rectangular volume placed in the center of the house’s site.
Design
The surrounding area of this house is a quiet residential area. In this quiet area, the houses are surrounded by hedges and walls. A rectangular volume is added in the center of the site due to the layout shared in the surrounding area called “a mansion surrounded by walls.”
By placing this volume in the center of the site, the elongated space remains around and it also can be enjoyed as a garden.
Structure
The first floor of this house has a structure supported by slender pillars of steel and a concrete core, so the house space is bright and also open as much as possible by opening the shoji screen, a typical screen of a Japanese house.
Details
The second floor of this house consists of a wooden space with limited windows. At the top of the stairs, the solarium provides an awesome view of the road on the south side while the house bedroom can protect the room privacy from the neighboring houses.
