It is a single-family residence located in Pacific Palisades, California. Modern Family Residence is designed by Abramson Architects with 6,200 SQFT in size. Completed in 1994, this house becomes an iconic house that has an angular and orthogonal collision. It also has been featured on the hit ABC Series, Modern Family.
Design
This house takes its awesome form as a direct response to its entire context. There is a geometrical shift in the project plan: opening this house to the afternoon sun, incorporating an existing grove of trees, and screening the garden from the neighboring house.
Structure
The collision of the orthogonal and the angular can be seen throughout this house and also manifested in details such as the angled step risers, trapezoidal bathtub, and repeated triangular skylights.
The essential design element of this house is its swimming pool. The indoor-outdoor interaction offers a strong sense that expressed with large doors. These doors open up to the pool’s edge.
