Flower & Garden Pavillion is a collaboration project of Zen Architects with Philip Johnson Landscapes. This pavilion is made for a display at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, providing a place of calm reflection within one of the lush garden displays of the Philip Johnson. With a final touch, this pavilion is integrated into a beautiful lush landscape.
Design
In order to create a place of calm reflection with the limited size of the site, the architect uses creative techniques to maximize the space’s perception. An angled roof and walls can create a forced perspective, making this shelter feels more comfortable and spacious.
Materials
In the shallow interior, the walls and mirrors of plants create an illusion of greater depth. Reclaimed materials in this project including cut concrete slabs, car tires, and timber sleepers are used to bring an organic feel. These materials at the same time also exemplifying the spirit of re-use and recycling.
