Completed by Studio 4 Architects in 2019, Twin Gables is an award-winning project located in Lake Hood, Ashburton. The house consists of two main pavilions with gabled roofs. It sits on a site with beautiful canal and mountain views.
Design
The gabled roofs of the main pavilions are facing east to west. A lot of glazing throughout the house can encourage engagement with the stunning outdoors and the interior can be opened up thanks to the pitched ceilings.
Spaces
Extensive use of glass and cedar allows this house to rest on its site naturally and remain open to the stunning outlook. Mountain and canal views can be seen from the lounge, dining, kitchen, living, and master bedroom spaces. These views also provide a serene backdrop from those spaces.
Details
The house exterior has a cedar cladding that is added to the interior to create features between the master bedroom and living area and kitchen.
The living pavilion and the master bedroom wing of the house open out to the outdoor living areas, providing shelters from the breezes and solar heat in summer.
The outdoor living area overlook the canal, allowing one to enjoy the beautiful canal views.
